Vuzix Wrap 920 Video Eyewear

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 25 - 2010

Vuzix Wrap 920At first, Vuzix’s Wrap 920 looks like a pair of sleek sunglasses. Jack them into your iPod touch or iPhone, however, and they become personal video screens that replicate the experience of viewing a 67-inch display.

The Wrap 920 supports both 2D and 3D video at a resolution of 640 by 480. (How you get 3D video on your iOS device is your problem.)

Extreme USB Storage

Extreme USB Storage The ExtremKey All-Terrain Flash Drive from LaCie might not protect your favorite daredevil during smoke-jumping,  cliff-diving, or motocrossing exploits. But with its ability to withstand  temperatures from –120 degrees to 392 degrees Fahrenheit, water depths of up to 333 feet, and the trauma of being run over by a 10-ton truck, the ExtremKey can at least give you the comfort of knowing that your data will survive the most insane, er, extreme, pursuits.

Spotlight on iPhone 4 Cases: EcoShield+

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 24 - 2010

EcoShieldAgent16′s rugged EcoShield+ isn’t afraid to take a stand. The $40 iPhone 4 case sports a built-in stand that rotates out from its bottom, propping up your phone for easy video viewing or FaceTime chats.

When the stand isn’t in use, it covers your iPhone’s 30-pin connector, protecting it from debris and environmental damage; the case also protects your iPhone’s headphone jack with a sliding door. To top it off, each case incorporates at least one bottle’s worth of recycled plastic, giving Agent16′s case an eco-friendly fee

RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 6 - 2010

RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800The company’s first  touchscreen/keyboard handset, the RESEARCH in MOTION’S BlackBerry Torch 9800, sports the new BlackBerry 6 OS.

A little thicker than some other top phones out now, the Torch measures 4.4 by 2.4 by 0.6 inches and weighs a manageable 5.68 ounces.

The 3.2inch, 360by480 capacitive touchscreen is fine for browsing the Web, but the colors, text, and detail look slightly flat.

The hardware keyboard slides smoothly and easily.  The Torch also has a software keyboard, but in both portrait and landscape modes it feels cramped. Test shows that the Web browser is slow to load, especially at mediaheavy sites. The handset’s 624mHz processor just can’t seem to handle the new WebKitbased browser technology.

The Torch’s 5 megapixel camera has autofocus, a 2X zoom, and an LED flash and the image quality was better from older BlackBerrys.

BlackBerry Bold 9700

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 6 - 2010

BlackBerry Bold 9700The latest BlackBerry Bold doesn’t look much different to previous models, with its full QWERTY keypad and leather back. Under the hood, however, it has a faster processor.

The screen’s resolution has gone up, too, and with a 480×360 pixels packed into only 2.4in of space, text and images are clear and sharp.
There’s now an optical trackpad, which is responsive, The keypad is narrower than before, but it’s just as usable, with moulded keys that have excellent feedback.

The interface has changed, too. Rather than a full screen of icons, the first thing you see is an attractive background, with a single row of icons at the bottom of the screen. Pressing the BlackBerry button shows a list of all your apps, and acts as the menu key once in an app. Read the rest of this entry »

HTC Tattoo

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 5 - 2010

HTC TattooThe HTC Tattoo is an Android phone that’s available free on a contract for £20 per month. Despite its budget price, it has all the features you’d expect on a smartphone, including GPS, an FM radio, Bluetooth and WiFi.

It may not be as sleek as HTC’s other Android phones, but the curved chin and large, round central button give it character. The controls are located on the phone’s chin, with only a volume controller on the side, A 3,5mm headphone socket is located on the top edge, while a mini-USB port, for charging and data transfer, is on the bottom. LG GT540 Optimus

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 5 - 2010

LG GT540 OptimusThe GT540 Optimus is an Android phone that’s only available on a pay-as-you-go tariff from 02. It’s only LG’s second Android phone after the InTouch Max, but is completely different: it has a 3in touchscreen rather than a QWERTY keyboard and it’s much slimmer.

Sadly, it uses Android 1.6 rather than the latest 2.1 version. While it’s an upgrade from the InTouch Max’s Android 1,5, it means you’ll miss out on a slew of new features, such as support for multiple accounts. Read the rest of this entry »

APPLE iPhone 4 32GB

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 5 - 2010

APPLE iPhone 4 32GB While previous revisions of the iPhone have been small updates to the existing design, the iPhone 4 feels like a new phone. For a start, it’s the thinnest model yet, and the slender new case makes the old ones feel a bit podgy.

One of the main new features is a front-facing camera, primarily for FaceTime video calls. However, these can currently only be made over a WiFi connection. The quality of the video is surprisingly good, and it’s quick to switch between front and rear cameras. Read the rest of this entry »

HTC Desire

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 4 - 2010

HTC DesireThe Desire is essentially HTC’s version of the Nexus One, which it also manufacturers. As we mentioned in the previous review, the main specifications of the two handsets are pretty much identical. However, unlike Google’s smartphone, it doesn’t support US 3G bands.

With a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 576MB of RAM, the Desire speeds through anything Android can throw at it. HTC’s Sense interface is a great improvement on the standard Android interface. The People app brings together all your contacts, across multiple services such as Google, Exchange, Facebook and Flickr, and automatically searches for duplicates and lets you merge them.
