Posted by Digital Electronics On November - 28 - 2010

Olympus E-5For the past couple of years, Olympus has focused mostly on its Micro Four Thirds line. But, as the new E-5 shows, the company hasn’t forgotten about regular Four Thirds at all.

The latest update of its flagship DSLR steps up to a 12.3MP Live MOS sensor (from 10.1MP in the E-3), adds a stop of sensitivity for a top of ISO 6400, and adds 1280×720- pixel 30-fps HD video capture.

Meanwhile, it keeps the super-rugged magnesium-alloy body with weathersealing that is the top of its class.

Motorola S9 Earbuds

Motorola S9 EarbudsThe MOTOROKR S9 is Motorola’s current generation of Bluetooth stereo buds.

Their small, lightweight form factor makes them easy to wear for longer periods of time and are especially well suited for running, bicycling, and similar activities.

However, the control buttons on the headset were a little too small to make this a practical choice for me.

Altec Lansing Octiv Duo M202

Posted by Digital Electronics On November - 27 - 2010

Altec Lansing Octiv Duo M202Altec Lansing has kept it simple with the Octiv M202. Save for the additional dock, which lets you charge two iPods or iPhones at the same time, there are no additional bells and whistles here.

Instead, when you first connect one of Apple’s portable devices, the M202 prompts you to let it install two apps: one to allow you to use the speaker dock as an alarm clock and the other to let you play music from both docked iPods by shuffling tracks from both libraries.

The speakers are also magnetically shielded, so you don’t have to switch your iPhone to Airplane mode to avoid interference.

Sony Alpha A 55 Camera Review

Posted by Digital Electronics On November - 24 - 2010

Sony Alpha A 55At a time when many new interchangeable-lens cameras have been forgoing refl ex mirrors altogether,  Sony’s new Alpha 55 (and Alpha 33) take a radically different approach.

Instead of ditching the mirror mirror— and with it, speedy, reliable autofocus—Sony gave these two DSLRs a semi-transparent mirror that doesn’t fl ip up and down. The result: Cameras that can autofocus continuously while recording high-defi nition video, and fi re off stills at high burst rates—and that keep the existing Alpha lensmount for compatibility with the entire Sony lens catalog. They’re also smaller and lighter than Sony DSLRs in the same class. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by Digital Electronics On November - 23 - 2010

Zippy Pentax K-rFollowing in the footsteps of its K-x Pentax’s 12.4MP K-r has an APS-C CMOS sensor. But this new DSLR offers a 3-inch 921,000-dot LCD screen, 720p video at 25 fps, and lots of shooting options, including two in-camera HDR modes.

Action shooters take note: The K-r has a 6-fps burst rate. It also uses Pentax’s new SAFOX IX autofocusing system, with 11 focus points, as well as an AF assist lamp to help in low light. And low–light shooting should be better with the K-r—its ISO tops out at 25,600, a full stop higher than the Pentax K-x.

There is also such features as the ability to transfer data between cameras via an infrared sensor, and the option to use either the supplied Li-ion or AA batteries.

Zippy Pentax K-r is available in three colors: black, white, and red.
