Sharkoon Rapid Case 2.5 USB 3.0

Posted by Digital Electronics On November - 20 - 2010

Sharkoon Rapid Case 2.5The Rapid Case, Sharkoon’s first USB 3, is a 2.5in drive caddy that converts SATA 3Gbps to USB3.

Opening the enclosure involves removing two small screws and while it’s a tight fit, the casing is sturdy and comfortably stood up to a quick kick around the CPC labs.

A blue LED indicates power and drive activity. Using a top-of-the-range 256GB Crucial C300 SSD, test showed read and write speeds of 197MB/sec and 166MB/sec respectively, which is some way off SATA 6Gbps but more than enough to all a 2.5in hard disk to run at full speed.

USB2 speeds were very good too, with the drive managing sequential read/write speed of 33MB/sec and 28MB/sec.

APPLE iPhone 4 32GB

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 5 - 2010

APPLE iPhone 4 32GB While previous revisions of the iPhone have been small updates to the existing design, the iPhone 4 feels like a new phone. For a start, it’s the thinnest model yet, and the slender new case makes the old ones feel a bit podgy.

One of the main new features is a front-facing camera, primarily for FaceTime video calls. However, these can currently only be made over a WiFi connection. The quality of the video is surprisingly good, and it’s quick to switch between front and rear cameras. Read the rest of this entry »

Then the modified picture can be saved into your iPhone library. The application was built entirely with Corona SDK, using UI graphics and font images from the original Macintosh System 6 version of the application (circa 1990). Read the rest of this entry »

Sling Player for iPhone supporting AT&T 3G streaming

Posted by Digital Electronics On February - 5 - 2010

AT&T’s decision to deny iPhone users the ability to stream their Sling content over 3G soured the launch of the app last year, but it seems the carrier has now relented.  According to the press release, AT&T have been testing a freshly “optimized” version of the Sling Player for iPhone software, which it obviously believes won’t drag its 3G network to its knees.

Sling Media reckon the app “dynamically adjusts the bandwidth based on network conditions and picture quality”, something more usually seen in preserving picture quality on variable-speed networks rather than preserving the network itself.  The new version of the application is yet to be released, as it’s waiting on approval from Apple for inclusion in the App Store; it will be offered as a free upgrade for those who bought the original $30 app.

Apple’s Tablet Confirmed in AustraliaAlthough we’d like to see Apple’s tablet emerge by the end of the year that will certainly not happen. Verizon chief says offering the iPhone is Apple’s call

Verizon chief says offering the iPhone is Apple's call

Remember how in grade school, you usually made fun of the people you had crushes on? Verizon — hot on the heels of some surgically strategic anti-iPhone marketing to promote its upcoming Android line — is singing a very different tune in the corporate boardroom, with CEO Ivan Seidenberg (who has a storied reputation for running his mouth) saying during the company’s earnings call today that the company “obviously would be interested at any point in the future that they would be interested in having us as a partner.” He went on to say that the decision to bring the iPhone to Verizon is “exclusively in Apple’s court,” though we doubt that’s entirely true — Verizon has a reputation for putting manufacturers and devices through the wringer, and if any carrier in the world were to spike the iPhone for failing acceptance testing or throw its gargantuan weight and reputation around to put pressure on the contract, it’d be Big Red.
