SONY is set to launch a 5-in screen intended to work with the company’s NEX and Alpha cameras.

The accessory is designed to allow users to monitor, capture and playback in a larger format via HDMI connection.

The CLM-V55 LCD screen is set to go on sale in March  and is expected to cost $399.

Designed with the NEX-VG10 video camera in mind, the shaded screen is also able to take over the job of any camera that features an HDMI output connection whether made by Sony or not.

Powered by a standard Sony Alpha battery, the screen comes with an adapter to allow it to be fitted to the Alpha hotshoe as well as one for a standard tripod socket. Read the rest of this entry »

Research In Motion (RIM) announced their latest offering, the Blackberry PlayBook. The tablet which RIM CEO, Mike Lazaridis described as “the first professional tablet” has a 7 inch, 1024 x 600 multi-touch screen, a dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB RAM and either 16GB or 32GB onboard storage capacity.

The PlayBook sports a 3MP front facing camera and a 5MP rear camera. It has got a microUSB jack, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and an HDMI port. No word on when it will be available and at how much, but it looks quite promising.

This soundbar has all that it takes to be a winner in the home theater system category. With a blu-ray player neatly concealed within the design, it shows just the soundbar and a subwoofer as components to attach to the TV set.

Content can be fed either via the Blue-ray slot or from USB drives. The design is compact and concise and it is 3D-ready and Wi-Fi upgradable as well.

The Pentax x90 offers a 26X optical zoom (26-67mm equivalent) as well as HD movie recording and control over shutter speed and aperture.

Stabilization is handled with a mechanical, sensor-shift based approach rather than an optical lens-based or ISO system. The addition of a 720p HD movie mode is also a bonus, even if it does come in the less desirable Motion-JPEG format.

The design of the camera is extremely indicative of the intention, being that isn’t shaped to resemble a small DSLR. Annoyingly the grooved ring around the lens barrel doesn’t alter focus, nor can it be removed to attach any accessories. Nvidia has lacked a credible mid-range graphic card for too long, with ATI’s 4000- and 5000-series cards taking all the plaudits for the past two years. The GTX 460 marked Nvidia’s return to serious competition with arch-rival ATI.

Gigabyte’s GV-N450-1GI is based around Nvidia’s new GeForce GTS 450 chipset, and with cards on sale for £100 we’d hoped it would take on ATI’s aging HD 5770, which has recently been reduced to a similar price.
