Mini Keys for iPhone, iPod & iPad

Posted by Digital Electronics On November - 4 - 2010

MINI KEYS FOR iPHONEI love using Apple’s compact Wireless Keyboard with the iPad and iPhone.

But if you’re looking for something even smaller, Macally’s BTKeyMini Bluetooth keyboard might fit the bill.

At just 8.7 inches wide, 4.1 inches deep, and 0.6 inch thick, and weighing just 7.5 ounces, the BTKeyMini fits into even the smallest iPad or laptop bag without adding much to your load.

An included hard-shell cover (which adds a bit of width, depth, and weight) doubles as a stand for your tablet. Of course, the ultraportability of the keyboard means that it has smaller keys and a  nonstandard key layout. But it still beats trying to use the on-screen keyboard to type for long periods of time.

Posted by Digital Electronics On February - 22 - 2010

Russell Brown, the Senior Creative Director at Adobe Systems Incorporated, has released a special iPhone application: the Photoshop 1.0.7.  It allows access to the Photoshop 1.0 Levels panel, taking any image in the iPhone’s gallery as well letting you tweak white point, black point and gamma, in separate red/green/blue or combined channels – including the original image histogram feature. Then the modified picture can be saved into your iPhone library. The application was built entirely with Corona SDK, using UI graphics and font images from the original Macintosh System 6 version of the application (circa 1990). Read the rest of this entry »

Sling Player for iPhone supporting AT&T 3G streaming

Posted by Digital Electronics On February - 5 - 2010

AT&T’s decision to deny iPhone users the ability to stream their Sling content over 3G soured the launch of the app last year, but it seems the carrier has now relented.  According to the press release, AT&T have been testing a freshly “optimized” version of the Sling Player for iPhone software, which it obviously believes won’t drag its 3G network to its knees.

Sling Media reckon the app “dynamically adjusts the bandwidth based on network conditions and picture quality”, something more usually seen in preserving picture quality on variable-speed networks rather than preserving the network itself.  The new version of the application is yet to be released, as it’s waiting on approval from Apple for inclusion in the App Store; it will be offered as a free upgrade for those who bought the original $30 app.

iPhone Steadicam Smoothee gadget breaks cover

Posted by Digital Electronics On January - 15 - 2010

Apparently, this odd looking holder for the iPhone was unveiled at CES last week and I missed it. The device is called the Steadicam Smoothee and is from the company that makes the fancy mounts for cameras used to shoot movies and TV shows.

If you like the idea of recording video with the iPhone camera and like the idea of holding a big, rather ugly mount to record with this may be for you.

The mount measures 14.5″ x 2.5″ in operating configuration and has a folding ergonomic grip. The device also ships with a DVD offering tips on how you can get the best quality using the gadget. Pricing is unknown, but the thing had better be cheap. If it costs too much you could just buy yourself a better video camera with shake reduction built-in.

Revo's retro-styled Heritage radio does DAB, WiFi and casual unboxingsIt’s fair to say that Revo has never made a “normal” looking radio in its entire life, but hey — that’s a-okay with us. The outfit’s latest, which is up for pre-order right now at £229.95 ($382), is easily one of the sleekest, most vintage-looking we’ve ever seen it produce. The aptly-named Heritage sports a wood and aluminum motif, room for your iPod or iPhone to dock, and support for DAB, FM and WiFi radio signals. There’s also an OLED display to keep you informed, support for wireless music streaming from your Mac or PC, a 3-inch neodymium speaker driver, 7-watts of power, a 3.5 millimeter headphone connector and even an iPod video output. Heck, they even throw in a multi-country power adapter as a courtesy to you yearnin’ Yanks. Go on and tap that via link if you’re interested in an unboxing.
