16GB Nokia X6 Mobile Review

Posted by Digital Electronics On January - 25 - 2010

Nokia launched the first X6 phone back in November of 2009 with 32GB of storage and it includes the comes with music service. The asking price of about $676 probably turned more than one interested buyer away from the device though. Nokia has today announced the launch of the X6 16GB handset.

The 16GB version looks very much like its larger stable mate with a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, and four new colors including black, white, white with pink, and white with yellow. The device runs Symbian and has 18 days of standby time and 11.5 hours of talk time. Read the rest of this entry »

Lenovo Lephone gets officially pictured

Posted by Digital Electronics On January - 14 - 2010

Lenovo’s Lephone announcement at CES 2010 last week fell somewhat into the shadow of another new Android smartphone from a big-name manufacturer, the Dell Mini 3, but that’s not to say the Lenovo handset has no distinguishing features.  Snap-on accessory keyboards aren’t new – the LG Versa on Verizon is a recent example – but we’re particularly feeling Lenovo’s curvy layout.

As for specifications, there’s a a 3.7-inch 480 x 800 touchscreen with a touch-control panel underneath, a WCDMA radio, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS, along with two cameras: a 3MP shooter on the back and a VGA one up-front for video calls.

Nokia 2010 Symbian UI update gets previewed

Posted by Digital Electronics On December - 3 - 2009

Nokia_symbian_ui_concept Nokia’s promise to overhaul the Symbian UI yesterday was heavy on stats but light on screenshots, but thankfully the company’s webcast is fair overflowing with concept renders.  The Finnish company has promised not only to make the UI more attractive – by cutting out clutter and upping scrolling rates from 15fps to 60fps – but more functional too, slicing out the number of taps required to complete tasks or launch features, and giving users “large capacitive displays” to do that tapping on.

It’s probably too much to expect the slick concept device Nokia’s designers have thrown together to be anything like what the company have on the drawing boards, but we certainly wouldn’t argue with a keyboard-free capacitive version of the N900.  One of the biggest changes, Nokia claims, will be removing some of the more frustrating user prompts, and with 350 of them that’s a decent move toward a less-frustrating owner experience. BlackBerry Bold 2 to be announced October 21 for T-Mobile, AT&T

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 8 - 2009

BlackBerry Bold 2 to be announced October 21 for T-Mobile, AT&TWe have it on good authority that T-Mobile and AT&T both currently plan on announcing the Bold 2 — also known as the Onyx — on October 21. As a refresher, this would be the touchpad-driven piece with model number 9700 that’s been making the rounds on the leak circuit the past few months, a fitting successor to a device that virtually every celebrity this side of Merle Haggard has been photographed carrying at once point or another. What we don’t know is pricing or retail launch date, but at least this gives us a pretty hard target for when we can expect details — so start cleaning out that Bold trackball, because you’re going to have something to eBay here pretty shortly.

Fujitsu cellphone

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 6 - 2009

Fujitsu cellphoneFujitsu has been wowing us with cellphone concepts for quite some time, but this year’s round at CEATEC is undoubtedly a show-stopping bunch. Some of the hottest ideas to come from the outfit’s most recent mobile phone design contest were on display here in Japan, and we went end to end capturing the lot. The clear pebble mock-up (shown above) was easily the crown jewel (in our mind, anyway), with a small black blob able to morph into different screens (media panels, a keypad, web browser, etc.) depending on which corner you drag said blob into. There was also a design reminiscent of paper mache, not to mention one with a circular vibe that just has to be a long lost cousin to Motorola’s AURA.
