RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800

Posted by Digital Electronics On October - 6 - 2010

RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800The company’s first  touchscreen/keyboard handset, the RESEARCH in MOTION’S BlackBerry Torch 9800, sports the new BlackBerry 6 OS.

A little thicker than some other top phones out now, the Torch measures 4.4 by 2.4 by 0.6 inches and weighs a manageable 5.68 ounces.

The 3.2inch, 360by480 capacitive touchscreen is fine for browsing the Web, but the colors, text, and detail look slightly flat.

The hardware keyboard slides smoothly and easily.  The Torch also has a software keyboard, but in both portrait and landscape modes it feels cramped. Test shows that the Web browser is slow to load, especially at mediaheavy sites. The handset’s 624mHz processor just can’t seem to handle the new WebKitbased browser technology.

The Torch’s 5 megapixel camera has autofocus, a 2X zoom, and an LED flash and the image quality was better from older BlackBerrys.

Nexus One

Nexus OneGoogle’s smartphone is remarkably similar to the HTC Desire, which is no coincidence as both phones are made by HTC. They share the same basic specification, though, the Nexus One has a different design and uses the basic Android operating system, without HTC’s Sense interface.

That’s not to diminish Android’s built-in software: there’s support in version 2.1 for multiple Gmail and Microsoft Exchange accounts, and all the basic apps are there for email, contacts, calendar and messaging. Google Maps Navigation provides free turn-by-turn navigation in a clear interface.
Like the Desire, the Nexus One’s screen is gorgeous, although not quite as bright and colourful as Samsung’s AMOLED screens. Read the rest of this entry »

Acer E400

Acer’s beTouch E400 is a slim and elegant Android phone with a 3.2in touchscreen. It has touch-sensitive buttons below the screen, which makes the fascia a flat, glossy surface.
It comes with Android 2.1 and Acer has added a few tweaks and apps of its own. The most useful of these is a copy of Documents To Co, which lets you view Word, PowerPoint and Excel documents.
There’s also a copy of Twidroid, a well-known Twitter client, a music streaming app called Spinlets, and the NemoPlayer media player. The latter will address the concerns of those who find Android’s built-in media player too basic, while Spinlets is more of a music discovery app, letting you sample music.
